Is your Desktop Computer Being Backed up? Server Backups & Computer Backups ARE NOT the Same

Saving Your Work Locally

We regularly identify offices that save their documents locally to their desktops and/or laptops. If you are saving your files to your Desktop, C: Drive, and My Documents folders while working on your PC you are saving your document locally.

When you save your files directly to your PC without backing up to the server your critical business data is at risk - exposing your computer to viruses, malware, theft, and physical damage that could occur due to hard drive failure or natural disasters.

Are You Currently Saving Financial Information or Images Locally?

Are you saving your financial information on a PC that is not backed up to the server? If you are currently running QuickBooks or other accounting software solely on a PC you are putting those records at risk. The same thing goes for images. We recommend doing an audit of your current PC's to see if any of your office computers are saving invaluable data locally.

Server Backups Do Not Protect the Files Saved on Your PC

Many of our clients have our Complete Backup Solution which provides Data Protection for the Server in which Files are stored offsite but this does not protect your Files that are stored on individual computers. If you save files locally and your PC should crash, these files may not be recoverable. So what next? We recommend adding your desktops to a similar disaster recovery plan as your server. Your PC data will be stored offsite protecting you from critical data loss.

Why include desktops and laptops in your disaster recovery planning?

It is critical to your business operations to protect all your files including those on laptops and desktops.

When data loss or system failure occurs, you can:

  • Access individual data files and folders in seconds
  • Restore to the same or different machine in a matter of minutes
  • Boot a backup image as a virtual machine for a quick, temporary fix
