Migrating UniFi Access from Cloud Key to ENVR Using UID Enterprise
If you're managing UniFi Access and want to migrate from a Cloud Key Gen2 Plus to an ENVR, you might think it's a complex process. But thanks to UID Enterprise, the transition is incredibly simple. Today, I’ll walk you through how I migrated our UniFi Access system and consolidated everything into a single UniFi Protect instance.
Why Migrate to ENVR?
When we initially set up our door access system a few years ago, we adopted UID Enterprise. The great thing about UID Enterprise is that it allows us to manage users from a single pane of glass. That means when someone joins or leaves the organization, we can manage their access from one application—making everything streamlined and efficient.
By migrating to the new ENVR, I can integrate our cameras with UniFi Protect and have everything managed in one place. This keeps things simple and ensures a seamless security setup.
Step-by-Step Migration Process
The process was straightforward and only took a few minutes. Here’s how I did it:
1. Accessing UID Enterprise
First, I logged into UID Enterprise and navigated to:
- Services > Door Access
This section manages all the UniFi Access hardware.
2. Initiating the Migration
In the Door Access settings, I found the "Migrate Door Access" option. Clicking on this brought up the migration requirements:
- The target UniFi console (ENVR) must be in the same site as the devices.
- The door access device and target console must be on the same VLAN.
- The door access devices must be wired to the new console.
Since all these conditions were met, I selected:
- Source Console: Cloud Key Gen2 Plus
- Target Console: ENVR
Then, I clicked Migrate—and within seconds, all six door access devices were migrated.
3. Verifying the Migration
After the migration, I refreshed the ENVR access settings. Here’s what I found:
- The main door showed up and prompted for an update.
- Some devices required manual re-adoption.
- The access policies, users, and card inventory migrated successfully.
To finalize the setup, I manually restarted and re-adopted a few devices. Once that was done, all doors and access controls came online within minutes.
Key Takeaways
- Super Easy Migration: The entire process, including updates, took about 5–10 minutes.
- Automatic User & Policy Sync: UID Enterprise brought over users, policies, and card inventory seamlessly.
- History Didn’t Transfer: The only thing that didn’t migrate was access history. I can still view the history in the old Cloud Key, but it didn’t carry over to the ENVR.
Overall, I was impressed with how smooth and automated the process was. If you’re considering migrating your UniFi Access system, UID Enterprise makes it incredibly simple.
