Comparing the UniFi Pro xG 48 PoE vs. Enterprise Campus Switch 48 Pro: Which One Is Right for You?
At DPC Technology, we recently got our hands on the brand-new UniFi Pro xG 48 PoE, and naturally, we had to put it to the test. In our latest YouTube video, we compare it directly with the Enterprise Campus Switch 48 Pro, a unit we’ve had in production for several months. If you're deciding which enterprise-level UniFi switch to invest in, this deep-dive review is for you.
First Impressions & Unboxing
The Pro xG 48 PoE arrives in classic UniFi fashion—clean, well-packaged, and complete with everything you need for rack or countertop setup (yes, it even comes with feet… not that you'd want to set this beast on a desk). Rack rails, mounting hardware, and power cables are all included.
Right out of the box, it's clear UniFi has kept a high standard for presentation and build quality. But what’s inside and behind the unit reveals the real story.
Key Hardware Differences
Front View? Almost identical.
Back View? A whole different story.
- Enterprise Campus 48 Pro: 4 hot-swappable fans, 2 hot-swappable power supplies.
- Pro xG 48 PoE: 5 fixed fans, single AC input, and a DC input for power redundancy.
Both units are similar in physical dimensions, but the Enterprise Campus switch is slightly deeper to accommodate the modular components. If redundancy and hot-swappable parts are a must-have, the Enterprise model clearly pulls ahead.
Noise & Power Benchmarks
We measured sound levels at both startup and idle:
- Pro xG 48 PoE: ~56.5 dB at startup, 45.5 dB at idle
- Enterprise Campus 48 Pro: ~54.2 dB at startup, 46.5 dB at idle
In both cases, the noise is relatively quiet for this class of equipment and features a lower pitch—no high-frequency server whine. It’s a hum that won't bother most in an enterprise or server room environment.
Power-wise, the Pro xG provides a solid 972W PoE budget (on 120V), while the Enterprise can deliver up to 1500W with two power supplies—ideal for high-density PoE++ deployments
Performance & Feature Comparison
We used the UniFi product comparison tool to put these switches head-to-head. Here’s a breakdown of what's the same and what’s different:
Shared Features
- 16 x 2.5G PoE++ ports (backward-compatible to 10Mbps)
- 32 x 10G PoE++ ports (backward-compatible)
- 4 x 25G SFP28 ports
- Full Layer 3 functionality
- Quiet operation and rock-solid construction
Differences
- Stacking Support: Only the Enterprise Campus 48 Pro S version offers 100G stacking via SFP28 ports.
- Redundancy: Hot-swappable fans and dual power supplies exclusive to the Enterprise model.
- PoE Budget: Enterprise model offers significantly more available power.
- Pro AV Profiles: Unique to the Pro xG 48—ideal for audio/visual pros.
Real-World Use at DPC Technology
We’re deploying both units in our production rack here at DPC Technology. But one of the most exciting benefits of the Pro xG 48 is its price-to-performance ratio. At $2,499, it comes in a full $1,000 less than the Enterprise Campus 48 Pro.
With that price drop, we can afford more flexibility around the office—especially when it comes to powering our Switch Flex 8 PoE++ units for various test rigs, from indoor cameras to LPR setups. These lightweight switches draw power directly from the Pro xG, helping us avoid messy, dedicated power supplies.
More Releases: 24, 10, and AP Models
UniFi is also rolling out several new models in the same family:
- Switch Pro xG 24 – $1,799
- Switch Pro xG 10 – $699
- Pro xG Access Point – $499
- UniFi US Twin Aggregation Switch – $399
These are exciting additions for any growing UniFi ecosystem. We'll be reviewing the US Twin soon as we finalize our full 2025 UniFi Rack Reveal—stay tuned for that!
Final Thoughts: Which Should You Choose?
If you're managing mission-critical infrastructure that demands high power budgets, redundancy, and potential stacking—the Enterprise Campus 48 Pro is the obvious choice.
But for many, especially those looking to save on cost while retaining nearly identical performance and port layout, the Pro xG 48 PoE is a seriously compelling alternative.
