UniFi Introduces UNAS Generation 2 — Here’s What’s New!
If you’ve been following along, you know we are a big fan of the UniFi NAS (UNAS) lineup. We have been running three UNAS Pro units for over a year — one at home, one at the office, and one with our editor Michael in Greenville — and they’ve become essential to our daily workflow.
Today, we are thrilled to share that UniFi just dropped UNAS Generation 2, adding four new products to the lineup — and we’ve got a brand-new video walking you through all of it.
Watch today’s video here: UNAS Gen 2: What You Need to Know
The New UNAS Lineup
This second generation expands the ecosystem with two new desktop NAS units and two rackmount prosumer options:
- UNAS 2 – 2-bay desktop NAS, powered by a single PoE++ cable, featuring a front LCD screen, USB-C expansion, and a clean, minimalist UniFi design.
- UNAS 4 – 4-bay desktop NAS, with dual M.2 NVMe slots for caching and faster performance.
- UNAS Pro 4 – 1U rackmount, 4-bay NAS with 10-gigabit networking, MC-LAG support, dual NVMe caching, and modular, hot-swappable power supplies.
- UNAS Pro 8 – 2U rackmount, 8-bay NAS with the same pro-level features, perfect for high-availability and enterprise setups.
Pricing starts at $199 for the UNAS 2 and $379 for the UNAS 4, both available in black and white. The Pro models come in at $499 (Pro 4) and $799 (Pro 8).
Hands-On With the UNAS 2
In today’s video, we unbox and set up the UNAS 2, walking through the entire process:
- Setup: The unit adopts easily in UniFi OS, with a simple, app-based setup flow.
- Hardware: Tool-less drive installation, PoE++ power with a 2.5GbE interface, and included injector for those without PoE switches.
- User Experience: Super intuitive interface, RAID 1 setup out of the box, and UniFi Identity integration for mapped drives in Windows or macOS.
- Performance: In testing, we maxed out the 2.5GbE connection — perfect for everyday file transfers and backups.
It’s compact, travel-friendly, and ideal for home offices, small teams, or anyone wanting a simple but powerful storage solution.
Why This Matters
With Generation 2, UniFi is clearly building a full NAS ecosystem — from two-bay desktops to enterprise-grade 16-bay systems. Whether you just need a home media server or you’re managing multi-site video editing workflows, there’s now a UNAS for you.
I’ll be reviewing the UNAS Pro 8 later this week, so make sure you’re subscribed and have notifications on to catch that deep dive when it drops.
Final Thoughts
The UNAS 2 is shaping up to be a fantastic “everybody device.” With today’s high-capacity drives, two bays might be all most users need — and at $199, it’s an extremely compelling entry point into the UniFi storage ecosystem.
