Does Your Backup Meet the New HIPAA Regulations?

April 9th, 2013

We recently partnered with Linda Harvey, President of The Linda Harvey Group to review our Privacy Policy and Business Associate agreements to ensure we are protecting ourselves and our clients. As your technology specialist, we feel strongly about keeping you informed regarding these laws and providing the latest solutions to ensure your data is safe and your office is HIPAA compliant.
If you are still swapping out hard drives and taking them home using a replication program such as Karen’s replicator, you are not compliant. The reason being, this data is not encrypted. If one of those drives gets lost or stolen, the data can be accessed easily. As a result, you would be required to follow the guidelines of the HITECH Breach Notification Rule.
Recent Advancements in backup technology help us keep your information safe, readily available in case of data loss, and also comply with the ever changing HIPAA regulations. Take the time NOW to secure your data, limit potential damage to your business and avoid fines/penalties.
